iPart Q&A

iParts are Inventor parts (ipt) files which are actually part factories or foundries.   They use tabular data to create different configurations of parts.  To use them, place the "factory" file in a directory which is accessible to Inventor via a named directory in your project file(s).  A good choice would be to create a directory and place all foundry parts in that directory then place the directory in your Project path.  To insert into an assembly, use Place Component and pick the factory part.  Inventor will recognize the part as being a factory part and present you with dialogs to select the appropriate member.  After placement, you can select the part's table in the browser and change members thereby replacing the part in the assembly while maintaining the existing constraints.

DNA.jpg (1623 bytes) Parts marked with the DNA symbol have the end of part marker moved to the top of the browser.  Before using, move the end of part marker to the bottom and save. After you have saved, Compact the file. Compacting makes the file smaller and may resolve some issues with reading the table. The reason we move the end of part marker is to make the files smaller.  This makes it faster to download.  Do not un suppress any features in the iParts posted on this site.  The feature suppression is handled by the iParts table.
